Winter Vacation 2025 in Kashmir: Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Wednesday announced that winter vacations for classes from Nursery up to Middle level (Class 8) in the Kashmir division are expected to begin in the first week of December 2025.
The decision comes as temperatures continue to fall sharply across the Valley.
Speaking to reporters, the minister told KNS that the department has already conducted a detailed review of the weather situation and academic requirements before finalizing the schedule.
Minister Confirms Winter Break for Lower Classes
The minister stated:
“We have held a meeting regarding this, and winter vacations for Nursery to Middle classes will commence from the first week of December.”
She added that the timeline has been prepared keeping in view the prevailing cold conditions and the safety and comfort of students.
Academic Concerns Addressed
Parents and schools had earlier raised concerns about book availability, syllabus progress and academic load before the onset of the winter break.
Minister Itoo confirmed that these issues have been resolved:
“A meeting has been held and necessary directions have been issued,” she said, assuring that the department is actively monitoring the academic calendar.
Weather Conditions Continue to Worsen
The Kashmir region has experienced a noticeable drop in temperatures over the last week, with several areas recording below-normal conditions for mid-November.
The declining temperatures have strengthened the demand for an early winter break for junior classes.
