The Jammu Kashmir government has announced that the Jammu Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) will serve as the State School Standards Authority (SSSA) for the Union Territory, in line with the National Education Policy 2020.

According to Thanaji Bhat, Under Secretary in the School Education Department, the move aims to ensure transparent, independent, and effective regulation of schools across Jammu Kashmir.

Under NEP-2020, the SSSA will separate regulatory, academic, examination, and administrative functions, setting fixed standards and monitoring compliance in areas such as safety, infrastructure, teacher qualifications, governance, and financial integrity for all schools under JKBOSE.

The directive also instructs the SSSA to consider recommendations from PARAKH, the national assessment centre under NCERT, which advises that state examination boards be designated as SSSAs to maintain uniform standards nationwide. Similar boards, including CBSE and those in Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram, have already been appointed as SSSAs.

JKBOSE will oversee curriculum development, examinations, and school affiliations in the Union Territory, utilising its existing infrastructure, systems, and expertise to fulfil the regulatory responsibilities of the SSSA.
