The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has issued a significant notification regarding the setting of question papers for candidates appearing under the “Old Course” category.
According to the notification dated December 31, 2025, the Board has decided to discontinue the setting of separate question papers based on old syllabi. henceforth, all question papers will be set according to the New Syllabi and Courses of Studies.
Key Changes for Students
-
Target Audience: This applies to students of Secondary School Examination (Class 10th), Higher Secondary Part-I (Class 11th), and Higher Secondary Part-II (Class 12th) who fall under the “Old Course” category (re-appear/failure candidates).
-
Applicable Exam: This change is effective for the ensuing Annual (Private) / Bi-Annual Examination 2026.
-
New Standard: The question papers for these re-appear/failure candidates will now be identical to those set for the Regular students of the academic sessions 2024-25 & 2025-26.

What This Means
Previously, students with backlogs from older sessions (Old Course) often received question papers based on the syllabus they originally studied. However, with this new order, students must prepare according to the current/new syllabus that is presently in vogue for regular students.
