  • Implementation and Compliance

This initiative aims to make commuting more affordable and accessible for students, ensuring they can reach their educational institutions with ease.

Details of the Fare Concession

The fare concession applies to all public transport services operating in Kashmir, including buses and mini-buses. To avail of the discount, students must present a valid student ID card issued by their respective educational institutions.

Key Highlights of the Initiative:

50% fare discount for students on all registered public transport vehicles.

Applicable to students from schools, colleges, and universities across Kashmir.

Students must carry and show their student ID card to the conductor or driver.

The concession applies to both urban and rural routes within Kashmir.

Government’s Vision and Student Reactions

Transport officials emphasized that this decision is aimed at reducing financial stress on students and encouraging education.

Many students have welcomed the move, as transportation costs are a significant burden for families, especially in rural areas where schools and colleges are far from homes.

A university student from Srinagar, Aqib Ahmad, expressed his gratitude, stating, “This is a great step by the government. Many students struggle to afford daily transport, and this will provide much-needed relief.”

Implementation and Compliance

RTO Kashmir has directed all public transport operators to comply with the order. Strict action will be taken against any driver or conductor refusing to offer the concession to eligible students.

A complaint helpline is also being set up for students to report any issues related to fare overcharging
